Security Alive And Well In New York

After the final day of ISC Solutions in New York, I took the time to stroll in Times Square. I’ve done this several times before, but this time I noticed an NYPD sign warning would-be purse-snatchers and petty criminals that the area is under video surveillance.

Here is a vital link between New York City and the security of its visitors. After two days of working the tradeshow, here was an actual case study in motion.

I thought ISC Solutions was a booming success. Of course, I have no way of knowing whether show organizers met their goal, but the many exhibitors I talked to were pleased, and many were signing up for the 2011 solutions show on the spot. I believe ISC is a good regional show, and I’m proud to have participated.

I also came across an acquaintance: Tim Whall, the CEO of Protection One. I hope we’ll be hearing more from him next year when Security Products magazine launches its magazine within a magazine known as Dealer Quarterly. The first issue will appear in the March 2011 issue.

SIA members have elected four new directors to serve on its board. Perfect for the position of helping boost the association, they are Ray Dean of Niscayah; Ken Francis, UTC Fire & Security; Lisa Roy, Johnson Controls; and Bill Taylor, Panasonic Systems Networks Co. of America.

Also, five incumbent members return: Denis Hébert, HID Global; Steve Van Till, Brivo Systems; Kenneth LaMarca, Sony Electronics, Scott Schafer, Arecont Vision; and Chris Gerace, Bosch Security Systems.

A quick report about lunch during the second day of the show as Frank DeFina of Samsung hosted the Dark Restaurant Society -- a group of industry journalists -- at the Friars' Club in Manhattan: This was a nice kick in the pants for a group of hardworking journalists.
